A slight beacon of hope in Pakistani politics as founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan indicated his willingness to engage in dialogue with Pakistan Army.
Khan, in his interaction with journalists, urged military to appoint representative, and clarified that his previous remarks about the army were criticisms, not accusations, as part of democratic discourse.
Former prime minister compared army to a misbehaving child and argued that criticism is need of hour. The populist leader stressed that he has only shared his views against individuals and never made accusations against the army.
Sharing his views on political negotiations, Imran Khan challenged legitimacy of Mohsin Naqvi and the SIFC, and said the country is under undeclared martial law and accused Naqvi of orchestrating the mistreatment of PTI members.
He made it clear that he would not negotiate with Mohsin Naqvi and believes Naqvi will face the consequences of his actions.
Addressing questions about his recent statements, Khan said he desired to improve relations with the armed forces while continuing to critique its leadership. The incarcerated leader maintained that the army should not be immune to scrutiny.
He also shared two cents on figures like General Zia ul-Haq who was responsible for Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s execution and General Yahya Khan was to blame for the fall of Dhaka.
