Lahore, Punjab weather update; more monsoon rains, gusty winds predicted

LAHORE – Monsoon rains and gusty winds with isolated heavy falls are predicted in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Monday night and the next two days.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents from the Bay of Bengal penetrate the upper/eastern parts of Pakistan. They will likely approach central/southern parts of the country.

Under these weather conditions, monsoon rains and gusty winds are predicted in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur and Okara on Monday night. Rains are also likely at isolated places in Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Faisalabad, Chiniot, Jhang, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Khanewal, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Taunsa, Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan. Heavy falls may occur at few places in northeast/southern districts during this period.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, more intermittent monsoon rains and gusty winds are expected in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Faisalabad, Chiniot, Jhang, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Khanewal, Kot Addu, Taunsa, Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan. Heavy falls may also occur at few places in northeast/ central districts during this period.

Heavy falls may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of northeast Punjab on 29th and 30th July. Urban flooding may also occur in the low-lying areas of Lahore and northeast/south Punjab during the forecast period.

Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 34-36°C on Tuesday and 33-35°C on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls occurred in Northeast Punjab, Potohar region and Islamabad during the last 24 hours.

Bahawalpur remained the hottest place in the province where the maximum temperature was recorded at 43°C. Maximum temperature in Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan was recorded at 42°C, and Sargodha at 40°C.

In Lahore, maximum temperature was recorded at 36°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 69 per cent.
