LAHORE – The police barred Jamat-e-Islami Pakistan (JIP) women leaders and workers from traveling to Rawalpindi from their headquarters Mansoorah on Monday.
As the JI women came out of Mansoorah to embark on the long journey of Islamabad and Rawalpindi to join the party leaders for protest against high electricity bills and inflation, the police surrounded their convoy and barred them from traveling.
The police removed the women from their buses and took the buses to the Chung Poice station.where they were impounded.
The women leaders said that staging a protest was their democratic right.
Abdul Aziz Abid, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami’s West Lahore region, condemned the Punjab government for mistreating the women, saying that the Punjab government turned into a police state.
Liaquat Baloch also denounced the mistreatment of Jamaat-e-Islami’s women’s wing and called on the Punjab government to reconsider its actions.
