The escalation in Gaza has brought immense suffering to the Palestinian people. Gaza’s civil defence agency reported on Saturday that Israel’s military operation around Khan Yunis has resulted in the deaths of approximately 200 Palestinians, including 30 in an attack on a school in central Gaza. This brutal assault left hundreds more wounded and countless others displaced, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis.
Despite repeated calls from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the United Nations, Israel continues its genocidal acts, highlighting failure of international system to protect the Palestinian people. The Western countries, which tirelessly proclaim their commitment to human rights and justice, have utterly failed to rein in Israel’s barbaric actions.
The inaction from these nations is not only hypocritical but also complicit in the ongoing atrocities. President Joe Biden, with only months left in office, has a crucial opportunity to shape his legacy. If he genuinely aspires to champion human rights, he must demonstrate a serious commitment to ending the plight of the Palestinian people.
It is imperative for him to exert pressure on Israel to halt its reign of terror in the occupied territories and to ensure flow of humanitarian aid to the beleaguered residents of Gaza. This moment demands decisive action and moral courage from the United States. The Muslim world must also stand with the Palestinians not just in words but also in actions. The time for empty rhetoric has passed, the Palestinian people need tangible support and solidarity to survive and thrive.
