NisarKhuhro, President of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Sindh chapter, has condemned the proposal for a technocrat government as outlined in a Fitch report, labeling it unconstitutional and a conspiracy against democracy. Speaking at a ceremony organized by the People’s Labor Bureau at the SESSI head office to celebrate former President Asif Ali Zardari’s 69th birthday, Khuhro asserted that there is no provision for a technocrat government in the constitution.
He emphasized that the only constitutional method to remove a government is through a vote of no confidence. Khuhro criticized discussions of a technocrat government and constitutional emergency as attempts to undermine the democratic system. He stated that any talk of such a government contradicts the constitution, and the 18th Amendment has made it difficult to enact extraconstitutional measures. He stressed that PPP is open to dialogue and reconciliation with all political parties, including PTI.
However, Khuhro noted that Imran Khan’s demand for new elections is undemocratic at this time. He also called on Khan to disassociate himself from the Tiger Force within his party, as there is no place for private militias in politics. Khuhro advised PTI to launch a ‘jail bharo’ (fill the jails) movement if they are serious about freeing their leader, rather than resorting to symbolic hunger strikes and protests. He criticized these actions as trivializing political struggle.
Reiterating PPP’s stance, Khuhro said the party does not seek federal power and has supported the PML-N for the continuity of democracy. He emphasized that in a democratic tradition, issues should be brought to the floor of the parliament, and opposition has the right to critique. He accused Imran Khan of being anti-democratic, which he claimed was evidenced by his imprisonment due to his own misdeeds.
NisarKhuhro defended the court’s decision on reserved seats as ambiguous and difficult for the public to understand, noting that the review petition process should not be delayed, as per Imran Khan’s wishes. He urged political figures to learn from Zardari’s policies and work towards ending political strife in the country.
