K-Electric, in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), has intensified its campaign against electricity theft in Karachi.

This initiative focuses on removing illegal connections, to protect the power network and reduce line losses. Since the national anti-theft campaign began in September 2023, over 168,000 instances of electricity theft have been reported, involving the loss of more than 298.7 million units of electricity. During the fiscal year 2023-24, this crackdown has resulted in 980 FIRs and the arrest of 33 individuals in Karachi.

A K-Electric spokes person revealed that 70% of the company’s feeders are exempt from load shedding, but the remaining 30% suffer from load shedding due to high losses related to unpaid bills and theft. Areas such as Baldia, Surjani, Korangi, Orangi, Liaquatabad, Landhi, and Lyari are hotspots for power theft, which jeopardizes network safety and increases the risk of accidents.

The company acknowledges the impact of current economic conditions on bill payments and is setting up facilitation camps and Customer Care Centers across the city to help customers settle their dues and regularize their connections.

K-Electric urges local officials and community leaders to support regular bill payments and discourage theft to ensure a stable power supply for Karachi.
