The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi and Bodhi Works have announced the upcoming theatre play “The White Plague,” set to run from August 21 to 25 at the Arts Council. This announcement was made during a press conference attended by notable figures including Arts Council President Mohammad Ahmed Shah, filmmaker and director MeherJaffri, theater director Khalid Ahmed, and actors Fawad Khan, KashifHussain, and SaadZameer. President Mohammad Ahmed Shah highlighted the Arts Council’s commitment to promoting art and culture over the past two decades.

He emphasized the Council’s support for its academies and collaborations with cultural institutions both within Pakistan and internationally. Shah proudly noted that the Arts Council is Pakistan’s premier cultural institution, with a strong focus on global promotion of art and culture. Khalid Ahmed, theater director at the Arts Council, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work on this production, noting that the cast comprises his students.

He praised MeherJaffri for bringing together a talented ensemble and assured that “The White Plague” would set a high standard for theatrical performances. MeherJaffri, an award-winning filmmaker and playwright, provided insights into “The White Plague,” which is based on a 1937 Czech drama by KarelČapek. The play, dedicated to the memory of Zia Mohyeddin, addresses contemporary issues such as global pandemics and the actions of warmongering nations. Jaffri emphasized the play’s relevance to today’s world and its satirical commentary on inhumane viruses.

The play features a stellar cast, including Fawad Khan, SaadZameer, Samhan Ghazi, KashifHussain, ManalSiddiqui, and students of Zia Mohyeddin. KashifHussain, who plays a doctor in the play, invited the audience to witness an engaging and humorous performance. He revealed that after Karachi, the play would also be staged in Lahore. Fawad Khan shared his excitement about participating in the play, praising the talented cast and the play’s previous success. SaadZameer also expressed his enjoyment in being part of the production, highlighting the excellence of the cast.

“The White Plague” promises a blend of wit, satire, and thought-provoking entertainment, addressing contemporary global challenges through theatrical artistry. The play will run from August 21 to 25 at the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi.
