PESHAWAR – Rain-wind/thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are expected in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday night and the next two days.
Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate upper/central parts of Pakistan which will likely strengthen on Tuesday evening/night. A trough of westerly wave also prevails over upper parts of the country.
Under these weather conditions, rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, Haripur, Khyber, Peshawar, Kurram, Kohat, Bannu, Waziristan and Dera Ismail Khan on Monday night and the next two days. Heavy falls are also expected at isolated places during the period.
Heavy falls may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Galliyat, Manshera, Kohistan, Malakand, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Bunner, Kurrum, Orakzai, Khyber, Mohmand, Nowshera and Swabi. Urban flooding is also expected in low lying areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 23rd & 24th July. Landslides may disrupt traffic in the vulnerable hilly areas during the wet spell.
Peshawar’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 39-41°C on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Meanwhile, hot and humid weather prevailed in Peshawar and most districts of the province during the last 24 hours.
Dera Ismail Khan remained the hottest place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where the maximum temperature was recorded at 43°C. Maximum temperature in Bannu was recorded at 42°C.
In Peshawar, maximum temperature was recorded at 40°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 59 per cent.
