Slanty, Potato Sticks among several snacks found ‘unfit for consumption’

KARACHI – At least 11 famous packaged snack products were banned from market after lab tests found them unsuitable for human consumption.

Food safety is important for public health, and consumer confidence, and Sindh Food Authority and other departments make sure that unsafe food should be off the shelves as it can illnesses, posing risks to vulnerable groups and imposing significant healthcare costs.

Sindh Food Authority D.G said these products including Slanty Vegetable, Snackers Hot Masala, and others failed safety tests conducted by the University of Karachi’s Food Testing Laboratory.

Officials mandated products’ removal at the earliest, warning of legal action if deadline is not met, and urged other provincial food authorities to investigate similar issues to safeguard public health.

Sindh food authority issued directive for complete recall of the products under safety standards Act.  The company was also directed to promptly remove the affected products from the market to avoid further endangering public health.

SFA retains it holds right to pursue legal actions, including penalties under the relevant sections of the law and criminal proceedings under the Pakistan Penal Code, for any violations committed, as per media reports.
