Lahore’s 30-year-old record broken as city sees 315mm rain

Punjab capital city Lahore saw exceptionally heavy rainfall today on Friday, as 315mm of rain lashed the metropolis causing waterlogging.

WASA officials confirmed this record breaking rainfall, mentioning significant high numbers in several neighborhoods like Tajpura, Lakshmi Chowk, and others. WASA teams were actively clearing waterlogged areas, with ongoing monitoring to ensure swift drainage across the city.

On Friday, Pani Wala Talab received 151 mm, Qurtuba Chowk 152 mm, Gulshan-e-Ravi 151 mm, Mughalpura 145 mm, Airport 86 mm, Upper Mall 130 mm, Samanabad 153 mm, Iqbal Town 152 mm, Gulberg Town 105 mm, Chowk Nakhuda 155 mm, Nishter Town 162 mm, Jail Road 69 mm, and Farrukhabad 140 mm of rain.

Met Office also predicted more rain in Lahore over the next 24 hours, potentially exacerbating water levels.

Several other regions including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several provincial areas, also experienced heavy rainfall, causing inconvenience for residents.

Amid waterlogging, commuters faced significant difficulties in Lahore and other cities.
