In a strategic move to increase revenue and prevent illegal mining, the Sindh Department of Mines and Minerals has decided to conduct a comprehensive baseline survey of mining sites across the province. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Sindh Minister of Mines and Minerals Development and Education, Syed Sardar Ali Shah. The meeting, held at the Director General’s Office, included Secretary Mines and Minerals Development Sindh TahirHussainSangi, Director General Mines and Minerals Sindh ZulfikarKhokhar, and other key officials.

Discussions centered on identifying new mining sites, setting up specialized courts for mining-related cases, and improving the monitoring system for mining activities. Minister Shah emphasized the significance of exploring new sites, grading minerals, and establishing a museum and laboratory within the Director General’s office to support these efforts. He highlighted that Sindh is currently mining 27 types of minerals, which generated Rs 1702.89 million in FY 2022-23 and Rs 1804.43 million in FY 2023-24.

The aim is to increase these financial resources while ensuring public safety and health standards in mining areas. To attract investors, the department plans to create market utility for minerals by collaborating with factories, universities, and research institutes. Only registered mining associations will be engaged for legal consultations to ensure compliance. The establishment of separate courts is intended to expedite mining-related cases and prevent delays. The baseline survey and mineral grading are expected to enhance the marketability of Sindh’s minerals, making them more attractive to investors. The minister also stressed the importance of presenting the Director General’s office appropriately to reflect these initiatives.
