ISLAMABAD – Foreign Minister of Ishaq Dar is set to visit Afghanistan soon to address Pakistan’s concerns with the Afghan interim government amid surge in cross border terror attacks.

TTP and other militants based in Afghanistan pose security threats to Islamabad, and now the government announced a new military Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, to boost counterterrorism campaign amid a surge in militant violence from Afghanistan.

Sharing his views at inaugural session of Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar emphasized that recent terrorist attacks on Chinese nationals, including the Dasu suicide bombing, aimed not only to spread terror but also to dent Sino-Pak relations.

Despite the surge in attacks, FM Dar reiterated Islmabad’s desire for good relations with all its neighbors, including Afghanistan, and expressed his intention to discuss these issues directly with Afghan authorities during his upcoming visit.

He also briefed committee on Pakistan’s engagements with Afghanistan concerning security and healthcare issues. His statements underscored recent tasks in Pakistan’s National Assembly Foreign Relations Committee, where he reiterated the urgency of addressing insecurity and the targeting of Chinese nationals through direct dialogue with Afghan Taliban authorities.

Despite recent diplomatic talks, tensions remain high between Pakistan and Afghan Taliban, with Islamabad accusing other side of supporting terrorism.
