Air ticket prices are already touching the sky and the Sindh government jolted people with new stamp duty on both local and international flights.
The federal and provincial governments imposed heavy taxes to generate revenue needed to fund public services. The new taxes on luxury items including flight tickets aim to cut income inequality by taxing higher-income individuals or entities more, using the revenue to generate funds.
Stamp Duty on Flight Tickets
A notification shared in this regard said the new stamp duty will be Rs50 per ticket for domestic flights and Rs400 per ticket for international flights.
All airlines including some foreign air carriers are directed to collect the stamp duty on behalf of the government of Sindh.
The initiative aimed to generate substantial revenue for the province. Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah suggested taxes on air tickets, properties, and businesses, citing numerous challenges faced by the province over the past five years.
