Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets today in Quetta for Muharram moon sighting

QUETTA – The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is all set to meet in Quetta today, July 6, for sighting the crescent of Muharram-ul-Haram, which marks the start of the new Islamic year 1446 Hijri.

Chairman of the Committee Moulana Abdul Khabir Azad will preside over the meeting. The meetings of Zonal and District Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will also be simultaneously held at their respective headquarters.

Muharram 2024 Start Date in Pakistan

If the moon is sighted on July 6, the first of Muharram in Pakistan will be observed on July 7 and if the situation goes otherwise, the new Islamic year will start on July 8.

Ashura 2024 Date in Pakistan

Ashura is observed on Muharram 9 and 10 to remember the sacrifices rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussan (RA) and his companions in Karbala.

During Muharram, and specifically in Ashura, people mark processions and special gatherings across the country to pay tribute to them.

There are public holidays across the country on Muharram 9 and 10 to mark the Ashura with religious reverence.

If the month of Muharram starts on July 7, the Ashura will be observed on July 15 and 16. However, it will be marked on July 16 and 17, if the first Islamic month begins on July 8.

New Islamic Year Public Holiday on Muharram 1

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a public holiday on Muharram 1 to observe the start of the new Islamic year.
