Big increase in Cement, Steel prices after approval of Budget 2024-25 (Check New Rates)

ISLAMABAD – The much anticipated hike in Cement and Steel prices in Budget 2024-25 will impact construction projects in Pakistan, as higher material costs lead to overall project costs, and could influence the pace of construction projects.

Following the approval of tax-laden new federal budget, the price of cement per 50kg bag has been jacked up from Rs130-140 in local market. The government slapped the industry with Rs100 excise duty on each bag. With these changes, price of a cement bag is now available from Rs1,400-Rs1450.

In a similar development, 7.15 million tonnes of cement have been exported since the beginning of the current financial year. In same period of the previous financial year, the volume of cement exports was recorded at 4.57 million tonnes; in the month of June so far, the export of cement was recorded at 0.51 million tonnes, which is 11% less than June last year.

Steel Price in Pakistan

Steel makers also jacked up steel rebar prices by Rs5,000 per ton from July 1, 2024. Prices now range from Rs. 262,000 to Rs. 273,000 per ton due to anticipated increases in electricity tariffs, which producers are passing on to consumers.
