Sharjeel lauds Sindh govt’s support for media, public services

Sindh Information Minister SharjeelInamMemon has highlighted the significant strides made by the Sindh government in supporting journalists and enhancing public services, emphasizing the province’s commitment to media and community welfare. Memon outlined substantial financial contributions to various journalist associations.

The Association of Press Photographers received PKR 2 million. The All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) were each granted PKR 50 million. The grant for the Karachi Press Club was increased from PKR 50 million to PKR 70 million. He further detailed the allocations for regional journalist groups. PKR 5 million each for journalist associations in Larkana, Sukkur, ShaheedBenazirabad, and Mirpurkhas.PKR 20 million for the Hyderabad Union of Journalists.

PKR 20 million for parliamentary reporters. Additionally, the families of martyred journalists Jan Muhammad Mahar and NasrullahGadani received PKR 10 million each. Reflecting on these initiatives, Memon stated, “Since taking office on March 12, we have focused on significant support for the media and addressing public concerns.

” In addressing public services, Memon highlighted several initiatives and reforms. The excise department has a target of PKR 203 billion in recoveries for the upcoming year.

A crackdown on fake number plates and those violating the law.Implementation of a biometric system for vehicle registration.Amendments to the Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965 to ensure timely vehicle registration. Enhanced efforts to combat drug abuse, including drug tests in schools starting July 1, aiming to identify and eliminate drug suppliers.

Memon emphasized the government’s dedication to modernizing and digitalizing systems for improved efficiency and transparency. He also highlighted advancements in public transportation, including the expansion of the People’s Bus Service and the introduction of eco-friendly electric buses. Addressing the issue of drug abuse, Memon called for collective efforts from all societal members to combat this menace. “Our fight against drug trafficking is relentless, and we need everyone’s support to ensure a drug-free society,” he stated.

The minister acknowledged the pivotal role of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in strengthening democracy and implementing significant reforms in the country. He praised the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for their vision and dedication to improving the lives of the people.
