Saleh bin Zain Al-Abidin Al-Shaibi, the senior caretaker and key holder of the Holy Kaaba, has passed away, reports claimed on Saturday.
Al-Shaibi was born in Makkah, and held a doctorate in Islamic studies. The author of several books on religion and history has also worked as a professor at a university.
His family has been assigned the role of the caretaker of the Kaaba by Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) since the conquest of Makkah.
Al-Shaibi was the 77th caretaker of holy Kaaba from the same family. The family is incharge of cleaning, washing, and repairing of Kiswa, the cover of Kaaba.
Saleh Al-Shaibi was assigned the role of the caretaker of the Kaaba in 2013 after his uncle, Abdulqader Taha Al-Shaibi, passed away.
