K-Electric, the power provider, has warned the Sindh government of potential electricity suspension if pending dues remain unpaid. A letter addressed to the Sindh chief secretary and secretary energy demands the payment of Rs1.7 billion in withheld dues from the Sindh government.

It is noteworthy that in 2019, an agreement was reached between the Sindh government and K-Electric regarding the clearance of dues and current bills. Earlier, in an effort to address the issue of power outages, K-Electric and the Sindh government decided to establish a joint committee in Karachi. A high-level meeting took place between the Sindh Government and KE to discuss power supply and load shedding in Karachi. Represented by Energy Minister NasirHussain Shah, the Sindh Government, along with senior officials and the company’s leadership, was met by K-Electric, represented by CEO MoonisAlvi.
During the meeting, it was decided to establish a joint committee comprising representatives from the Sindh Government and KE to tackle load shedding and other issues in the city. The committee will work collaboratively to address public grievances, ensure timely bill payments, and develop strategies to minimize load shedding, ensuring uninterrupted power supply in Karachi.
