In a recent high-level meeting convened by Divisional Commissioner Sukkur, Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi, a comprehensive review of the ongoing crackdown against electricity theft and other pressing issues was undertaken, according to a handout issued on Sunday.

The meeting focused on assessing the progress achieved thus far in the anti-theft campaign, addressing challenges encountered, and strategizing ways to enhance the effectiveness of the initiative. Key agenda items included the progress of the campaign against electricity theft, legal actions against individuals involved in illegal LPG gas sales, and the construction status of the Ghotki Kandhkot bridge.

Officials present, including DIG Sukkur, SSPs from Sukkur, Khairpur, and Ghotki, DCs from Sukkur, Khairpur, and Ghotki, CEO of Sepco Sukkur, and SE Sepco Sukkur, among others, received updates on pertinent matters. CEO SEPCO, Engr Saeed Ahmed Dawach, provided a detailed report on progress regarding electricity theft, recovery efforts, and load shedding within the Sukkur Division. Notably, from September 7th, 2023, to June 6th, 2024, a total of 11,719 FIR applications were filed, resulting in 1,964 registered FIRs across the districts of Sukkur, Ghotki, and Khairpur.

The meeting also addressed the tragic Hyderabad LPG gas incident, expressing condolences for the lives lost. DCs of Sukkur, Khairpur, and Ghotki districts reported on arrests made against illegal LPG gas sellers and the removal of cylinders installed in vehicles and motorcycles. Regarding infrastructure updates, DC Ghotki presented a report on the Kandhkot bridge, indicating progress in the land acquisition process by the revenue department. However, slow progress was noted in bridge construction due to elevated water levels in the Indus River.

Commissioner Sukkur emphasized the enforcement of the LPG Act and SOPs in collaboration with OGRA authorities to prevent future tragedies related to LPG gas sales. He directed strict implementation of these measures by the DCs and police. Overall, the meeting underscored the commitment of authorities to address critical issues.
