LAHORE – The Punjab government started deliberations to decide 10 years jail to the gang leaders of the beggar mafia, the sources close to the development said on Friday.
The Punjab Home Department decided that the gang leaders of the beggar mafia would be sentenced to 10 years in prison and would be fined Rs2 million.
“The failure to pay the fine will result in an additional 3-year sentence,” said the sources.
According to the spokesperson, the Punjab Home Department has sent an amendment to the new law for cabinet approval.
The Punjab Home department spokesperson said that under the new law, forcibly making children, the elderly and women beg is declared a non-bailable and serious crime.
It may be mentioned here that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has issued special instructions to rein in the beggar mafia.
