Amidst allegations of financial irregularities and substandard work, the District Council Attock has vehemently denied accusations of misappropriating Rs 2.5 billion funds designated for the maintenance of roads.
The controversy arose following directives issued by Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem to the Chief Minister’s Office, prompting an investigation into alleged violations of rules, execution of substandard work, and other administrative anomalies. However, District Officer Infrastructure and Services (I&S) of District Council Attock, Zuqarnain Shah, rebuffed these claims, attributing them to a misunderstanding. In a statement to the press on Sunday, Mr. Shah asserted that all necessary procedures were followed in accordance with the law to allocate funds for various development schemes, primarily focusing on road rehabilitation.
He emphasized that numerous complaints from residents regarding the deteriorating road conditions prompted action from the district authorities. Mr. Shah clarified that the caretaker government had directed the initiation of development work after fulfilling essential formalities. He maintained that contracts for the rehabilitation and maintenance of roads, among other schemes, were awarded lawfully and with the approval of relevant authorities.
Furthermore, he assured that the quality and quantity of work were not compromised, inviting scrutiny of the work’s standards on-site. Addressing speculations of embezzlement, Mr. Shah dismissed them as baseless and false, reaffirming the council’s commitment to transparency and accountability in all its endeavors.
The denial from the District Council Attock comes amidst heightened scrutiny and public concern over the alleged misuse of public funds, underscoring the importance of thorough investigation and adherence to due process in matters of governance and financial management.
