Lahore, Punjab weather update; heatwaves predicted from May 21

LAHORE – Heatwaves will likely develop in Lahore and most parts of Punjab with 04 to 06°C above normal day temperatures from May 21.

Heatwaves will likely convert to severe heatwaves from May 23 and persist till May 27 with 06 to 08°C above normal day temperatures.

The farmers are advised to manage the crops accordingly. The general public is advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight. Extreme dry/heatwave conditions may trigger bush fires/forest fires in the vulnerable areas of Punjab.

As per the synoptic situation, continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan.

Under these conditions, extremely hot and dry weather is expected in Lahore and most districts of the province on Monday night, Tuesday and Wednesday. Gusty/dust-raising winds are expected during the afternoon.

In Lahore, the maximum temperatures will likely stay between 42-44°C on Tuesday and 43-45°C on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, hot and dry weather prevailed in Lahore and most districts of the province during the last 24 hours. Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, Kot Addu, Dera Ghazi Khan, Jhang and Khanewal remained the hottest places in the province where the maximum temperature was recorded at 46°C.

In Lahore, the maximum temperature was recorded at 44°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 17 per cent.
