Heatwaves likely in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 04-06°C above normal temperatures

PESHAWAR – Heatwaves will likely develop in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from May 21, says the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Heatwaves will persist till May 27 with day temperatures to stay 04 to 06°C above normal levels.

As per the synoptic situation, a shallow westerly wave prevails over the upper parts of Pakistan. It will likely persist during the next 24 hours.

Under these conditions, partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Balakot, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Kohat, Kurram and Waziristan on Sunday evening/night. Hot and dry weather is expected elsewhere in the province.

On Monday, partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorms is expected at isolated places in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Balakot, Kohistan, Shangla and Kurram. Hot and dry weather is expected elsewhere in the province.

In Peshawar, the maximum temperatures will likely stay between 39-41°C on Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, hot and dry weather prevailed in Peshawar and most districts of the province during the last 24 hours. However, rain-wind/thunderstorms occurred at places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Dera Ismail Khan remained the hottest place in the province where the maximum temperature was recorded at 43°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 48 per cent.

In Peshawar, the maximum temperature was recorded at 39°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 57 per cent.
