ISLAMABAD – Rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Sunday evening/night and Monday.
Heatwaves will likely develop in the country with 04 to 06°C above normal day temperatures in Sindh and Punjab from May 21 to May 23 and from 06 to 08°C from May 23 to May 27. Day temperatures are likely to remain 04 to 06°C above normal in Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan from May 21 to May 27.
As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a shallow westerly wave prevails over the upper parts of Pakistan. It will likely persist during the next 24 hours.
Under these conditions, partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, upper Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir on Sunday evening/night. Hot and dry weather is expected in most parts and very hot weather with windstorm-dust raising winds in central and southern parts of the country.
On Monday, hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of Pakistan. Very hot weather with windstorm-dust-raising winds is likely in central and southern parts. However, partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorms is expected at isolated places in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas.
In Islamabad, the maximum temperatures will likely stay between 37-39°C on Monday and 38-40°C on Tuesday.
In Rawalpindi, the maximum temperatures will likely stay between 37-39°C on Monday and 39-41°C on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, hot and dry weather prevailed in the twin cities and most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. Very hot weather prevailed in southern/central parts. However, rain wind-thunderstorms occurred at isolated places in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Gilgit Baltistan.

Nawabshah remained the hottest place in the country where the maximum temperature was recorded at 49°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 44 per cent.
In Islamabad, the maximum temperature was recorded at 39°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 46 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 38°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 39 per cent.
