Lahore, Punjab weather update; rain predicted during weekend

LAHORE – Rain-wind/thunderstorms are predicted in Lahore and parts of Punjab during the weekend, says the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Friday.

As per the synoptic situation, a shallow westerly wave prevails over the upper and western parts of Pakistan. It will likely persist during the next 30-36 hours.

Under the influence of these conditions, partly cloudy weather conditions with rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in the Pothohar region, Murree, Galyat and surrounding areas on Friday night. Hot and dry weather is expected elsewhere in the province.

On Saturday and Sunday, rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected at isolated places in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Bhakkar, Lahore, Sargodha, Mianwali and Noorpur Thal. Partly cloudy weather conditions with rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Murree, Galyat and surrounding areas during the evening/night. Hailstorms are also likely at isolated places in the Potohar region during the period.

In Lahore, the maximum temperatures will likely stay between 40-42 degrees Celsius on Saturday and 41-43°C on Sunday.

Meanwhile, hot and dry weather prevailed in Lahore and most districts of the province during the last 24 hours.

Dera Ghazi Khan remained the hottest place in the province where the maximum temperature was recorded at 47°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 21 per cent.

In Lahore, the maximum temperature was recorded at 43°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 19 per cent.
