A fervent call to alleviate the burden of prolonged power outages resonated from the office of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Lower South Waziristan district, as the district president and former National Assembly candidate urged the government to curtail the staggering 22-hour load shedding period affecting the region.
In a statement released on Thursday, the district PPP office highlighted the crippling impact of incessant power cuts on the predominantly agrarian community of Lower South Waziristan. Emphasizing the district’s heavy reliance on agriculture for sustenance, the statement underscored the dire predicament faced by the populace amid rampant unemployment.
The district president lamented the neglect endured by the merged tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, likening their treatment by federal and provincial authorities to that of a neglectful stepmother. Of particular concern was the plight of local farmers, who, constituting 90 percent of the population, rely on agriculture for their livelihoods.
Expressing dismay over the lack of action from elected representatives, including the incumbent MNA Zubair Wazir, the district president criticized the failure of concerned officials, such as those from the Power Division, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, to address the pressing issue of load shedding.
Aman Ullah Wazir, in his impassioned plea, called for immediate intervention to mitigate the adverse effects of prolonged power cuts in South Waziristan. He urged authorities to implement measures aimed at reducing the duration of load shedding, thereby enabling farmers to promptly irrigate their fields.
