Turkish President Erdogan likely to visit Pakistan in coming weeks

ISLAMABAD – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to visit Pakistan in coming weeks to bolster bilateral relations in various fields.

The development was confirmed by officials in commerce ministry to a local publication. They said both sides have started talks to finalise the agenda of the Erdogan’s visit to Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema and Turkish Ambassador Mehmet Paçaci held a meeting where both sides agreed to strengthen their economic partnership.

Ahad Khan Cheema hailed the 2022 Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between Pakistan and Turkiye as an important development. He informed the Ambassador  about the establishment of SIFC in Pakistan with the aim of attracting investment from the friendly countries.

Turkiye’s investment potential in Pakistan for corporate farming, including agricultural machinery and equipment, was also discussed in the meeting.

Both the sides emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation in bilateral trade and investment through Government-to-Government (G2G) and Business-to-Business (B2B) arrangements.

Appreciating the importance of SIFC, the Ambassador expressed the desire to expand trade between the two countries through High Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) and Strategic Economic Framework (SEF) and promotion of cooperation in the areas of energy, banking, trade and railway sectors.
