ISLAMABAD – Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that the government has taken serious notice of “unauthorised dissemination of sensitive and classified information” particularly on social media platforms.
The minister issued the statement after various classified documents leaked on social media, putting threat to national strategic and economic interests.
Taking to social media platform X, the minister said that such unauthorized dissemination of the classified documents could damage Pakistan’s relations with the friendly and brotherly states.
He said that all those involved in such activities directly or indirectly will be booked under the Official Secrets Act 2023.
He said the convicts can face up to two years imprisonment and a fine for the crime.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s statement comes days after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif granted approval to a draft to amend the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 in a bid to regulate the social media.
