In response to the escalating threat of malaria, Provincial Minister for Health, Dr. Ezra Pechoho, has issued directives to health officials to initiate a widespread malaria prevention campaign throughout all districts of the province. Under the guidance of Dr. Pechoho, District Health Officer (DHO) Thatta, Dr. Syed Safdar Hussain Shah Amirkhani, along with a team of medical professionals, convened at the DHO office to formulate an implementation strategy.
During the meeting, Dr. Amirkhani outlined the comprehensive campaign scheduled to run from May 13th to May 17th, stressing active involvement from both non-governmental organizations and the health department. The primary objective of the initiative is to combat the increasing incidence of malaria in the region.
Highlighting the importance of community engagement, Dr. Amirkhani emphasized outreach efforts targeting schools, colleges, villages, and urban centers within the district. Key preventive measures, including the maintenance of clean water sources, the use of mosquito nets, application of repellent lotions, and prompt medical attention in case of fever, were underscored as crucial components of the campaign.
Furthermore, Dr. Amirkhani highlighted the accessibility of free malaria tests and treatment across all 62 hospitals in the district, encompassing both government and private healthcare facilities.
