Rain likely to provide relief from heatwave in Lahore, parts of Punjab

LAHORE – Rain-wind/thunderstorms are likely in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Thursday night, Friday and Saturday. Scattered rains and isolated hailstorms will likely provide relief to the heat-stricken people.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave will likely enter upper and central parts of the country on Friday evening/night. It will likely grip upper parts on Saturday.

Under the influence of this weather system, partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorm is likely in Murree, Galyat and surroundings on Thursday night. Isolated rain-dust/thunderstorm is likely in Lahore, Pothohar region.

On Friday and Saturday, rain-wind/thunderstorms are likely in Murree, Galyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Khushab, Nupur Thal, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot and Narowal. Isolated hailstorm may also occur during the forecast period. Light rain-wind/thunderstorms are likely at isolated places in Faisalabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Leyah and Bahawalpur. Wet spell will help bringing the temperatures to the normal levels during the weekend. During this week, temperatures were 03-05 degrees Celsius above normal levels in plains of Punjab.

Lahore’s maximum temperatures will likely remain between 39-41°C on Friday and Saturday.

Meanwhile, heatwave prevailed in Lahore and most parts of the province during the last 24 hours. Dera Ghazi Khan remained the hottest place in the province where the maximum temperature was recorded at 46°C. Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 14 per cent.

In Lahore, maximum temperature was recorded at 40°C. Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 31 per cent.
