PAL announces Rs 5.2m cash prizes along with awards for writers, poets

The Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) on Wednesday announced the year 2022’s Kamal-e-Fun Award for the prominent Writer Hassan Manzar.

The panel of judges comprised well-known writers and scholars including Munir Ahmad Badini, Dr. Moeenud Din Aqeel, Dr. Salma Shaheen, Dr. Abdul RazzaqSabir, SarwatMohyuddin, RiffatAbbass, YousufHussainAbadi, MubeenMirza, Dr. Khalid MahmoodSanjrani, Dr. RubinaShaheen, Dr. AmjadTufail, BushraFarrukh, HarisKhalique, FarrukhYaar Khan and AkhtarDargahi.

After long hours of delibrations held in the office of Pakistan Academy of Letters, the judges panel that was presided over by Munir Ahmad Badini came up with the well-deserved name for Kamal-e-Fun award.

It is Pakistan’s highest literary award in literature for recognition of lifetime’s achievement in creative and research work. The amount of this award is Rs 1 million.

On the occasion, Dr. NajeebaArif, Chairperson, PAL also also announced the National Literary Awards for the year 2022, given on the best literary books written during the year 2022 in Urdu and other Pakistani languages in a Press Conference.

According to the decision of the judges: for Urdu Prose (Creative Literature) SaadatHasanManto Award is given to Ahmad Saleem on his Book “MeriDharti Mere Log.”

For Urdu Prose (Criticism & Research) Baba-i-Urdu Molvi Abdul Haq Award is given to Dr. Aurangzeb Niazi on his book “Urdu AdabMaholiatiTanazur.”

In Urdu Poetry, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal Award is given to QamarRazaShahzad on his book “Dar Guzar.”

In Punjabi Poetry Syed Waris Shah Award is given to GhulamHussainSajid for his book “Kun De Gunn.” For Punjabi Prose AfzalAhsanRandhawa Award is given to Nain Sukh on his book “WabaTeWaseb.”

In Sindhi poetry Shah Abdul LatifBhitai Award is given to ImdadHussaini on his book “ZardMatti” and for Sindhi Prose MirzaQaleechBaig Award is given to ManzoorKohiar for his book “Denok 109” and Dr. FayazLatif on his book “ShaikhAyaz Je ShaireeJeeLughat.”

For Pushto Poetry Khushhal Khan Khattak Award is given to Ismail Gauhar for his book “Ghazal O Ghazal.”

For Pushto Prose Muhammad Ajmal Khan Khattak Award is given to AseerMangal for his book “Tarla Da TarborVee.”

In Balochi Prose Syed Zahoor Shah Hashmi Award is given to YousufGichki for his book “ Tarangani Johan” and for Balochi Poetry Mast Tawakli Award is given to Mubarak Qazi for his book “ Gas e WatarkangLotan.”

For Seraiki Poetry KhwajaGhulamFareed Award is given to Iqbal Babar on his book “Saroop” and for Seraiki Prose Dr. Maher Abdul Haq Award is given to Hafeez Khan on his book “MarmaJeewan Dee.”

In Brahui Poetry Taj Muhammad Tajal Award is given to Maher ZahidNalvi for his book “Qab-e-Qausain.”

In Brahui Prose GhulamNabiRahi Award is given to ZauqBrahui on his book “Mir Noor Muhammad Mengal: ZindoKirdar.”

Hindko Poetry Saeen Ahmad Ali Award is given to SajidSarhadi on his book “Piyar Dee Dewe” and Hindko Prose KhatirGhaznavi Award is given to GulArbab on her Book “ChuniNaalBaheniKahanian.”

English Prose PitrasBukhari Award is given to KamilaShamsie on her book “Best Friends” while English Poetry Daud Kamal Award is given to Ejaz Rahim on his Book “CharliHebdo and Other Poems.” In translation MuhamamdHasanAskari Award is given to YasmeenHameed for her book “Junoobi Asia KeeMuntakhebNazmein.”

The Award money Rs. 200,000/- will be given to each of Award winner for the National Literary Award 2022.
