LAHORE – Supreme Court Judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah said, “Until we are not subject to a system, we cannot move forward,”.
Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah said that the constitution says that judiciary should be independent. It is the first time that the practice and procedure have come up, and the reforms are needed in the institutions.
“Our judiciary has black spots on its history. Some decisions can be harmful. 4,000 judges are working daily. It is written in the constitution that judiciary should provide cheap justice. From January 2023 to December 2023, decisions were made on 1.39 million cases. There are 2.4 million cases pending in Pakistan,” said Justice Shah while addressing Asma Jahangir conference on Saturday.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah said, “Until technology is not introduced in the system, pending cases cannot be resolved. I am not very pleased with the history of our judiciary. We need to forget the culture of running institutions individually. The process of appointing judges needs to be reconsidered,”.
He said, “A judge can both bend and stand the system. If we want to run the system in the world, we should not appoint judges through recommendations. The data about our judiciary is worrying. Judges who are not performing should be out of the system. There should be zero-tolerance for corruption,”.
The judge said that the corruption in the judiciary should be completely eliminated. Removing judges is not an easy task as grouping emerged.
He stated that they need to increase the number of female judges. The number of female judges should be increased at the High Court, District, and Supreme Court levels.
He further said, “Our commercial court is not the only one. A complete commercial corridor should be established in Pakistan. Revenue cases and economic matters are dealt with in the commercial court.
“ We need to start our commercial corridor, which work is underway. Until there is no future training, the system cannot function,” he added.
