Inspector General of Police has announced the deployment of a Rapid Response Force (RRF) to safeguard surveillance cameras installed along both internal and external routes of the province. The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by the Inspector General of Police Sindh.
The IG Sindh emphasized the importance of ensuring the protection of surveillance assets, instructing for a dedicated committee comprising DIGs, headquarters personnel, establishment, and ARYF representatives to be formed.
The committee’s objective is to devise strategies and regulations regarding the maintenance and protection of surveillance cameras. Furthermore, it was highlighted that the surveillance cameras will not only aid in identifying criminal activities and vehicle movements but also facilitate the acquisition of essential information related to stolen vehicles.
The Project Manager of the ARTC informed that the implementation of the Smart Surveillance System is expected to be operational by May 10. Once completed, the system will be handed over to the police for supervision.
Under the S-4 project, 40 cameras are being installed on various internal and external routes across Sindh, equipped with modern technology and facial recognition capabilities.
These cameras will play a crucial role in monitoring traffic, identifying stolen vehicles, and organizing related data efficiently.
Additionally, it was revealed that 1400 police personnel will be required for the security of these cameras, with recruitment underway for 3512 officers. The decisions and developments were discussed in a meeting held at the Central Police Office in Karachi, attended by top police officials including DIGs, IT, establishment, ARTC, and other key stakeholders.
