Nawaz Sharif set to leave for China on 4-day visit tonight

LAHORE – Former three-time prime minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif will depart for China a four-day visit tonight (Monday). Sharif’s visit is of personal nature as the senior politician will undergo a medical checkup in neighboring nation.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo is expected to hold several meetings during his visit to the neighbouring country, reports said, adding that he would also meet key leaders of the Communist Party of China.

The former premier would be accompanied by his close friends while reports suggest that Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is likely to join him on the trip.

Nawaz Sharif’s visit is being taken as significant to further boost bilateral ties between Pakistan and China. He is expected to discuss areas of collaboration in various sectors.

This will be his first foreign trip since returning to Pakistan after ending his long exile in Britain.

Sharif, the cuntry’s three time PM, has had a friendly relationship with China. During his tenure, he focused on strengthening Pakistan’s ties with China, particularly through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative, which aims to enhance connectivity and economic cooperation between the two countries.

PML-N government emphasized the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China, often referring to China as Pakistan’s “all-weather friend.”
