Veteran jurist and senior puisne judge Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim was Monday sworn in as the acting Chief justice of the Peshawar High Court Peshawar (PHC) He was administered the oath of the coveted office by the second-most senior judge of the PHC Justice Ijaz Anwar In a formal ceremony held at the Peshawar High Court on Monday morning.
It may be recalled that the Peshawar High Court’s Chief Justice Mohammad Ibrahim Khan retired on Sunday following more than three decades of a judicial career. Born on December 2, 1969, in Peshawar, Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim has a distinguished legal career. He earned his law degree from Peshawar’s Khyber Law College in 1992 and acquired licenses to practice law from the high court in 1995 and the Supreme Court in 2008.
Throughout his career, he has served in various capacities, including as assistant and additional advocate general of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim’s contributions to the legal field extend beyond his practice. He held the position of president of the Peshawar High Court Bar in 2013. In recognition of his expertise and commitment, he was appointed as an additional judge of the high court in 2016, subsequently becoming a permanent judge in 2018.
Following the retirement of the former chief justice of the Peshawar High Court, Justice Ibrahim assumed the role of acting chief justice. Ishtiaq Ibrahim had also served as president of Peshawar High Court Bar Association.
Born to a respectable family of Peshawar on 2nd December, 1969. He received his secondary education in the year 1985 from University Public School, Peshawar and Higher Secondary School Certificate from Government College, Peshawar in the year 1987. He passed Bachelor of Arts from Government College, Peshawar in the year 1989 and LLB from Khyber Law College, Peshawar in the year 1992.
