Provincial Minister of Sindh for Information, Excise, and Taxation, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has taken proactive steps in the fight against drug abuse by directing the formation of a task force within the province. Expressing grave concern over the escalating presence of drugs, particularly ice, within educational institutions, Minister Sharjeel Memon underscored the urgency of implementing comprehensive measures to stem this dangerous trend. Memon issued directives to the Secretary of Excise and the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Hyderabad to launch decisive operations against drug traffickers.
Additionally, he instructed them to keep the Secretary of Information Sindh apprised of their progress in this regard. Furthermore, Memon urged the information secretary to roll out an anti-narcotics awareness campaign within a short timeframe. Emphasizing the importance of thorough investigations into apprehended drug suspects, the provincial minister mandated the establishment of a task force comprising distinguished officers under the Secretary of Excise. Last month, the Sindh government announced its readiness to undertake a comprehensive crackdown against the menace of drugs across the province. In a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon in Karachi, plans were laid out to combat the drug epidemic effectively. During the session, Minister Memon underscored the necessity of confronting the drug crisis head-on and proposed the formation of specialized teams composed of efficient officers to execute the crackdown.
“A vigorous campaign targeting drugs and their traffickers will be launched promptly,” Memon affirmed, stressing the imperative of liberating the younger generation from the clutches of drug peddlers. He also pledged to recognize and reward officers demonstrating exceptional performance in the fight against drugs, acknowledging their unwavering dedication and commitment to the cause.
