The Narendra Modi-led Indian govern-ment has deactivated the (X) formerly Twitter and Facebook accounts of Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, a prominent Kashmiri Hurriyat leader and former convener of All Parties Hurriyat Conference AJK chapter.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Rehmani, who has been critical of the Indian government’s policies on Kashmir, said that his (X) Twitter ac-count was deactivated in both India and Jammu and Kashmir. He also said that his Facebook account was hacked and then deactivated.
Rehmani condemned the deactivation of his ac-counts, calling it an attempt to silence dissent and suppress the voices of Kashmiris. He said that the Indian government has been carrying out crackdown on political activities and freedom of movement in Kashmir, and that the deactivation of his accounts is part of this crackdown.
It should be noted that Modi’s Indian government has also suspended the Urdu X account of Kashmir Media Service news agency.—KMS
