PPP’s Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani elected as Senate chairman

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) senior leader Yousaf Raza Gillani has been elected unopposed as the Chairman Senate while Saidal Khan Nasir of the Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has been elected unopposed as the Deputy Chairman Senate.

Before this, the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected senators and the election of the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate were held in the Senate.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar took the oath from the newly elected members of the Senate and congratulated them.

18 senators from the PPP, 14 from the PML-N, and 3 from the JUI-F took the oath, while Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi took the oath as an independent senator, whereas Faisal Vawda did not take the oath.

The responsibility of conducting the proceedings of the President Officer was handed over to Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar who had set a session at 12:30 pm for the election of the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate.
