LAHORE – Former Pakistan captain Muhammad Hafeez has been waiting for his dues from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) despite several months passed since his brief tenure.
Hafeez, who was appointed as the director of the national team under the leadership of Zaka Ashraf in the PCB management committee, could not get payment from the board.
According to reports, Hafeez, who also fulfilled the duties of head coach during tours of Australia and New Zealand, came under criticism after the national team, under the leadership of Shan Masood, faced defeat in all three Test matches against the Kangaroos.
The T20 series added to the disappointment when under Shaheen Afridi’s leadership, the Men in Green lost the series against the Black Caps 4-1.
The change in leadership from Zaka Ashraf to Mohsin Naqvi has led to a change in the PCB’s coaching style, which has been noticed in acquiring the services of foreign coaches. This change has raised questions about Hafeez’s role, leading the PCB to announce his separation as the team director on social media.
The decision ended his initial four-year term just two months later.
The PCB’s indecision regarding coaching during New Zealand’s cricket team tour to Pakistan has been evident.
Despite efforts to reach numerous international cricket figures, the board had to face refusals due to leaving the position vacant.
According to the sources, Hafeez’s contract payment has not been made, which includes compensation for tours of Australia and New Zealand.
The busy schedule of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi created obstacles in resolving this issue that resulted in unsuccessful attempts to meet and negotiate with Hafeez about the matter.
Despite efforts to return home, Hafeez could not meet Mohsin Naqvi.
Later, the decision to terminate his contract was apparent. The former captain, while refraining from openly discussing his experiences with the PCB, will play the role of an expert analyst in local TV programs.
