Sher Afzal Marwat, a prominent figure from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has voiced criticism against the federal cabinet’s swift decision-making process concerning allegations before proper investigation. Speaking on a local TV program, Marwat expressed concerns over the perceived haste in dismissing allegations without a thorough probe.

Marwat referenced the commission inquiry report, led by retired judges, labeling it as “lifeless” akin to previous controversies like the sugar scandal. He highlighted the gravity of a letter penned by six judges, signaling a serious issue within Pakistan’s judicial landscape. The letter reportedly shed light on the judges’ predicament, addressing concerns to then-Chief Justice Atta Bandial and Senior Judge Qazi Faiz Isa. However, Marwat lamented the lack of decisive action by the Supreme Court, urging Prime Minister Nazir Tarar to uphold judicial independence.

Meanwhile, PTI spokesperson Rauf Hasan, speaking on Arwai News, acknowledged the gravity of the allegations raised by the six judges. Hasan stressed the role of the Supreme Judicial Council in conducting inquiries and issuing verdicts in such cases.

Regarding the appointment of Justice R. Tasadeq Jilani to head the commission, Hasan questioned his authority in the matter. While acknowledging Jilani’s respected stature, Hasan argued that the commission’s jurisdiction was not clearly defined, raising doubts about its legitimacy.—INP
