LAHORE – Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has said that ministers have been given targets to fulfil the conditions of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Referring to the last cabinet meeting, he said that the prime minister has set goals for all ministers for the next five years aimed at addressing the challenges facing the country.

Addressing a press conference at PML-N Secretariat in Lahore on Sunday, Tarar said that the targets have been set for reducing inflation and unemployment, increasing GDP growth, restructuring loans, and digitising the Federal Board of Revenue.

The performance of every minister will be evaluated, he said, adding that those showing exceptional performance would be commended. “A self-accountability system had also been developed, with modern IT interventions used to evaluate ministry performance,” he said.

Tarar said that the interior ministry has been tasked to check illegal weapons, devise anti-terrorism measures and curb smuggling.

He said that targets for the trade ministry included improving the ease of doing business and formulating trade agreements with friendly nations. He said that the education ministry has been tasked to enrol out-of-school children and devise strategies for skills development.

He said that the privatization of PIA would have a positive impact on the country’s economy. He stressed the need to document the black economy.

He accused the PTI of mismanaging the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
