ISLAMABAD – The International Day of Zero Waste is being observed globally including Pakistan today.

On 14th December 2022, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to proclaim 30th March as International Day of Zero Waste.

The day highlights both the importance of bolstering waste management globally and the need to promote sustainable consumption and production patterns.

Waste pollution significantly threatens well-being of humans and their economic prosperity.

It accelerates the triple planetary crisis of climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution.

In connection with the said day, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif advocated for the observance of “Zero Waste Day” on a daily basis.

The CM emphasized the urgent need for responsible consumption of essentials and effective waste management strategies.

Maryam Nawaz highlighted the pressing environmental challenges confronting the world today.

She also underscored the necessity for an industrial economy that optimizes resource utilization while minimizing waste production.

The CM urged citizens to reduce the usage of single-use plastics and instead opt for eco-friendly alternatives, marking a significant step towards environmental sustainability.

She expressed her commitment to fostering clean and tidy environments in every corner of the province.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of collective social efforts in providing a healthy and stable future for our children.

She called for proactive measures such as selecting durable products and minimizing food wastage to address the issue at its roots.

The CM asked the citizens to contribute to the cause by adopting responsible waste disposal practices and actively participate in waste reduction initiatives.
