KPC, Unilever collaborates for climate journalism

Karachi Press Club (KPC) collaborated with Unilever Pakistan in a pioneering effort to enhance climate journalism capabilities in the country. The interactive session, attended by esteemed journalists, aimed to delve into the intricacies of climate change reporting and its pivotal role in shaping public awareness and policy discourse.

The event commenced with an insightful overview of Unilever’s sustainability initiatives, highlighting their commitment to societal impact beyond organizational boundaries. Discussions revolved around the crucial need to distinguish between climate change and its various impacts, including environmental degradation. Afia Salam, a Media Development Specialist & Climate Change expert, stressed the importance of bridging the gap between the private and public sectors to empower journalists with accurate field information. She emphasized, “Fostering collaboration between private and public entities is key to equipping reporters with the resources needed for effective climate change journalism.”

Shoaib Ahmed, Secretary of the Karachi Press Club, emphasized the strategic importance of facilitating such dialogues and elevating them for actionable outcomes. He remarked, “It’s vital to bring these discussions to the forefront and translate them into impactful solutions.”

He also extended the Karachi Press Club’s platform for future collaborative events of similar nature. Fatima Arshad, Head of Sustainability at Unilever Pakistan, underscored the ongoing nature of climate change and the need for sustained efforts.

She emphasized the importance of adopting an end-to-end disaster management strategy to ensure resilience and preparedness for the future. “Climate change requires continuous attention, affecting various aspects of life from food security to the natural ecosystem,” she added.

Both Unilever Pakistan and the Karachi Press Club reiterated their commitment to organizing essential sessions aimed at fostering climate action solutions and engaging industry leaders for a more significant impact.
