The District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Landikotal has become a shelter for stray dogs, causing concern among locals and raising questions about the state of healthcare services in the area. Reports indicate that stray dogs, along with their offspring suffering from skin diseases, have been spotted roaming freely within the hospital premises, painting a grim picture of neglect and mismanagement.
Efforts to address this issue have been met with disappointment, as despite assurances from health officials, the presence of stray dogs persists even after 20 days. Residents and activists have voiced their frustration, pointing out the deteriorating conditions within the hospital and the lack of action from authorities.
Akhtar Ali Shinwari, a prominent social activist, highlighted the decline in hospital services under the current administration, contrasting it with the more functional state of affairs during the tenure of former Medical Superintendent Dr. Shirani. He specifically mentioned the non-functionality of the cardiac ward and the absence of kidney dialysis facilities, urging authorities to prioritize the restoration of these essential services for the benefit of local patients.
Criticism has also been directed towards the absenteeism of doctors and other healthcare staff, exacerbating the difficulties faced by patients seeking medical attention. Israr Shinwari, another social activist, called for strict measures to ensure the regular attendance of appointed personnel, emphasizing the need for accountability and legal action against those neglecting their duties.
