ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is holding a crucial meeting with Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa to discuss the letter written by the Islamabad High Court judges against alleged interference in judiciary.

The meeting is being held at the chamber of the chief justice in the federal capital where Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar and Attorney General for Pakistan Usman Mansoor Awan are also present in the meeting.

A day earlier, CJP Isa held a full court meeting over calls for probe into allegations made by six Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges against intelligence agencies.

The development came after a petition was filed in the apex court requesting an open court investigation into a letter from judges to the Supreme Judicial Council, alleging interference by intelligence agencies in the judicial matters.

The petitioner urged formation of a commission to probe the matter and called for a judicial convention on the alleged executive interference in judicial affairs.

In the letter, Islamabad court judges expressed concerns about interference and intimidation by intelligence agencies, seeking action from the SJC on reporting such actions.

Those who wrote letter include Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, and Justice Saman Raffat Imtiaz.
