UN Chief joins Palestinians in fasting during Ramadan

CAIRO – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres shows solidarity with oppressed Palestinians by fasting with them.

Guterres arrived in the Egyptian city of El-Arish along with Gaza where he also visited Palestinian patients in the state hospital.

He made his first visit in Ramadan in solidarity with Palestinians who are bearing the brunt of Israeli attacks since October last year. Guterres expressed his respect for Palestinians who are not able to have proper Sehri and Iftar.

In a social media post, UN chief expressed sorrow for the Muslims he visited. My heart is broken knowing that so many Palestinians in Gaza will not be able to have a proper Iftar, he said.

He further stressed his solidarity with the people of Gaza, urging world leaders to take action and allow humanitarian aid to reach the occupied territory.

During his visit, Guterres also interacted with Sudanese refugees in Egypt, sharing an Iftar meal, emphasizing his support.

His further held a meeting with Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed Al Tayeb, in Egyptian capital, acknowledging his efforts to foster peace. He commended generosity of the Egyptian people during his visit, highlighting their commitment to compassion, peace, and solidarity.
