ISLAMABAD – A road in the country’s federal capital, Islamabad, has been named after the late journalist and Founder of Pakistan Observer, Zahid Malik, in recognition of his services to Pakistan.
The government of Pakistan acknowledged the late Zahid Malik’s lifelong dedication to the nation and named the new road opposite the F-10 main road as “Zahid Malik Road”.
The noble gesture from incumbent authorities made the Malik family proud, and they praised Pakistan Observer editor-in-chief Zahid Malik for dedicating his unwavering commitment to truth and justice.
In his decade-long glittering career, Zahid Malik exemplified the highest standards of journalistic integrity. He fearlessly uncovered the truth and gave voice to the voiceless in the South Asian nation. The late journalist’s life served as a beacon of hope.
Hilal-e-Imtiaz for Zahid Malik
The government also picked Mr Malik for the prestigious Hilal-e-Imtiaz. His wife, Ms Rehana Zahid Malik, will accept the country’s second-highest civilian award alongside our family members.
The journalist, an author par excellence, an exemplary scholar, and a former bureaucrat was named for Hilal-i-Imtiaz last year.
Zahid Malik, a recipient of the Sitara-i-Imtiaz, was born on October 5, 1937. He authored a dozen books and over 2,000 articles and comments. He received a Writers Guild of Pakistan First Prize for his book ‘Public Relations’, first published in Urdu in 1971.
‘Mazameen-i-Quran-i-Hakeem,’ an 800-page subject-wise classification of verses of the Holy Quran, is one of Mr Malik’s works. The collection was translated into English, French, and German.
Malik, who delivered several lectures in Pakistan and abroad, received a Sitara-i-Imtiaz on Aug 14, 2011, for his contributions towards journalism, the promotion of the ideology of Pakistan and writings about Islam.
He was patron-in-chief of the Nazaria-e-Pakistan Council, chairman of the International Seerat Centre and the Foundation for Coexistence of Civilizations. He was also the founder-chairman of the think tank ‘101 Friends of China.
In 2013, he was conferred an honorary PhD in Philosophy at the 6th convocation of the Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education in Karachi.
