Salman for self-accountability, reform in health sector

Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has emphasised establishing a culture of self-accountability across all institutions, including the Health Department. Chairing a meeting on Wednesday, he highlighted the importance of clean character and vowed severe punishment for those involved in stealing medicines from hospitals.

During the meeting held at the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education, Salman Rafique expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the health department once again, emphasising governments commitment to serving people. He noted the upcoming construction of a state-of-the-art cancer hospital in Lahore and pledged to improve emergency services.

Echoing ministers sentiments, Punjab Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan outlined plans to implement the standard operating procedures (SOPs) at the government hospitals in line with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharifs vision. He stressed the need for reforms to enhance the health system, affirming a zero-tolerance policy for medicine theft in government hospitals. Earlier, Khawaja Salman Rafique reviewed the conditions of government hospitals in detail during the meeting. Secretary Health Ali Jan Khan and other officers gave a briefing in this regard. Special secretaries Syed Wajid Ali Shah and Raja Mansoor Ahmed, additional secretaries Zahida Azhar, Agha Nabeel and Dr. Hafiz Shahid Latif, Vice Chancellor Faisalabad Medical University Professor Dr. Zafar Chaudhry.
