Weather update for Islamabad, Pakistan; more rain, snowfall predicted

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rainfall of varying intensities with snowfall over the hills for Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Wednesday evening/night and Thursday.

As per the synoptic situation, a westerly wave prevails over upper/central parts of Pakistan.

Under these conditions, rain-wind/thunderstorms, snowfall over the hills and isolated hailstorms are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan on Wednesday evening/night.

On Thursday and Friday, light rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are expected at isolated places in Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. Cold and dry weather is expected elsewhere in the country.

Islamabad’s minimum temperatures will likely remain between 08-10 degrees Celsius on Thursday and Friday.

Rawalpindi’s minimum temperatures will likely remain between 11-13 C on Thursday and Friday.

Meanwhile, rain-wind/thunderstorms occurred at isolated places in upper Sindh, northern Balochistan, central/southern Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the last 24 hours.

Sindh: Mohenjodaro 17, Khairpur 16, Larkana 12, Sukkur 07, Jacobabad 02, Padidan 01

Balochistan: Quetta (City 13, Samungli 11), Kalat 11, Zhob 05, Khuzdar 04, Sibbi 03, Zhob, Panjgur 01

Leh remained the coldest place in the country where the temperature dropped 07 C below freezing.

In Islamabad, minimum temperature was recorded at 11 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 70 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, minimum temperature was recorded at 14 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 61 per cent.
