ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ataullah Tarar said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) demand to withdraw GSP Plus status from the European Union is an attack on Pakistan.
Attaullah Tarar said this attack aims to disrupt the economy and harm the lives of the people.
“The PTI has made this demand and this demand is only because Imran Khan does not have required facilities in jail,” said Attaullah Tarar while addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Wednesday.
The federal minister said that the directives are being given from the jail to cause damage to the economy, and the government would not let it happen.
“Some elements want to harm the economy. They want to damage the state for their political motives. These elements fail to understand that if the state suffers, we all suffer,” he added.
Tarar said that the PTI’s attempt is to push the country into default, adding that it is a malicious campaign that was initiated by the PTI to harm the economy.
He mentioned the Prime Minister’s economic policies, saying that Shehbaz Sharif is working to eradicate inflation and unemployment. For the betterment of the economy, the Prime Minister, he said, is tirelessly working day and night.
“Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is an experienced economist at the global level and he is working for the national economy,” said the finance minister.
The Punjab Home department said that according to the Punjab Home Department report, PTI founder Imran Khan is leading a lavish life in jail.
“As per jail manual, a prisoner is allowed to meet once a week. Imran Khan, the founder of the PTI, has been allowed four meetings per week,” said the minister.
While responding to media questions, Tarar stated that restrictions on meetings apply only to one jail. Audits are being conducted in DG Khan, Adiala, and Mianwali jails, hence restrictions have been imposed on meetings.
“All facilities have been provided to PTI founder Imran Khan in jail. A bicycle has also been provided for exercise,” he added.
